Columbia Township is one of nine townships in Whitley County, Indiana. As of the most recent census, the population of Columbia Township is 11,639. The township encompasses 36.7 square miles, with about 5,000 total households.
Columbia Township is uniquely located in the center of Whitley County, sharing a border with almost every other township. The majority of Columbia City lies within Columbia Township, the exception being a handful of homes and part of Eagle Glen Golf Course, which are in Union Township.

Matt Minier was elected as Columbia Township Trustee in 2022, with his four-year term beginning 2023. Matt has worked for the City of Columbia City for over 25 years and has backgrounds in 911 dispatching, fire service, police, and EMS. He previously served as a Thorncreek Township Board Member.

Township board members are elected to four-year terms. Duties include adopting the annual budget, serving as board of finance and approving township contracts.
Left to right: serving for 16 years as Trustee, Mike Myers is no stranger to public service. A lifelong resident and farmer, Myers has spent over 50 years serving the community as a Firefighter and past Chief of the Columbia Township Fire Department. Matt Minier assumed office as Trustee January 1.
Handing over the keys - Jennifer Reiff, Whitley County Consolidated Schools Director of Innovation and Technology receives the keys to Engine 302 from Columbia Township Trustee Matt Minier. The engine has retired from front-line service and takes on a new role training our future responders.
“It seems fitting to me that after so many years of front-line service, this truck should go on serving the community by helping teach our youth the craft of saving lives and property,” Minier said. “The school’s program has produced several volunteers for our program and we are grateful. We hope that the donation of this fire engine further enhances the experience for the students and continues
